We must defend ourselves, but we must also seize the opportunity offered by digital technologies. These are concepts that must be kept together. The CRA (Cyber Resilience Act) stems from the need to provide regulations for connected devices, which will number 200 billion by 2030. We are entering the era of hyperconnectivity. Therefore, we must defend ourselves from interference in our privacy, which is increasingly at risk in the AI era, but also from online fraud.

There is a delicate balance between freedom, privacy, and the legitimate need to ensure the security of European citizens. I believe that the pursuit of this balance will be work that will engage us in the coming years. Security needs will be more effectively pursued if shared. We are the political family that maintains that Europe should do few things but do them well: security, common defense, and border management are among these.

Europe has carved out a leading role as a regulatory actor in digital and cybersecurity. It is important that it also works on strategic autonomy and a sort of European technological sovereignty, in order to be truly competitive with other global players worldwide.

Every new technological domain necessarily involves the legislative aspect as well. Companies operating in this field certainly have the task of fostering public-private partnerships but, above all, that of raising awareness on these issues among stakeholders, consumers, and individual citizens who could be victims of cyberattacks. A joint effort from everyone is needed, but it is a challenge that we as Italy can certainly win.
