Internet of Medicine: innovation for public and private health care
Smart Hospital and Innovative Solutions for Hospitals under 4.0, innovative technologies and systems as medical decision support and in support of Clinical Collaboration in the era of digital transformation
The Challenge
Digital Transformation in the World of Medicine
Digital Transformation is also having a major impact on healthcare, which is constantly changing to improve patient care and facilitate citizen services.
Netgroup in recent years has supported the digitization processes of several hospitals in the area, taking part in a very interesting project for a large hospital in southern Italy that included the implementation of a mobile app for Indoor Navigation in the hospital and the development of a Nursery Monitoring system.
The Proposal
Indoor navigator and live video monitoring
Angelo Falvo, Netgroup’s IT Application Development expert, presents us with an innovative project to elevate technological capabilities in healthcare facilities.
To meet the explicit request from the hospital, we initiated a project that involved the development of a platform and mobile app and the installation of IoT devices to be installed in areas of interest.
Indoor Navigation
We created a mobile navigation app intended to be installed on the smartphones of outside visitors, with the purpose of guiding users around the hospital in order to enable them to independently reach the main points of interest, such as outpatient clinics, wards, information desks, cafeterias, and so on
Nursery Monitoring
The Nursery Monitoring solution is intended to be used by all parents of infants admitted to the hospital facility, with the purpose of conducting constant live video monitoring of the babies being cared for in the nursery or neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
The Benefits
Operational benefits
Taking advantage of the Indoor Navigation service within the hospital facility is very simple, just own a Smartphone, install the Mobile App and activate Bluetooth.
The app, in addition to showing routes to the place of interest, can make it easier to find the hospital’s busiest areas, such as cafeterias or information desks; allow reminders about an appointment or event; add a reservation by scanning the barcode with the smartphone camera; and send news about events and notifications to invite multimedia content when in the vicinity of a POI.
As for the Nursery Monitoring System, parents of the babies, by appropriately entering username and password, which are handed out by the ward staff, can access the live streaming page through the hospital’s online portal. By doing so, it is possible to monitor the infants and be constantly informed about their health conditions.
However, in order to preserve the health of the little ones and not get in the way of the operations of the health care personnel, the cameras are strategically installed and do not have night vision so that infrared radiation is not scattered in sensitive environments.
The Results
A new model of health care
It is about innovation that marries technology and services, which focuses on the centrality of the user and the patient, a real revolution in the relationship between hospital and citizens that is slowly changing the face of healthcare facilities in our country, toward a Healthcare 4.0 model.
