The IMOS project – presented by Netgroup and co-funded by the European Union, the Italian State and the Campania Region, within the framework of the POR Campania FESR 2014-2020 – envisages the customization of a proprietary platform to re-engineer and digitize industrial processes in the technological-productive domain of Aerospace in the technological Health management and maintenance of structures and systems through interventions in the following priority technological trajectories envisaged by RIS3 Campania:
- Intelligent Health Monitoring & Management System (AS29)
- Technologies and systems based on virtual reality maintenance process improvement (AS30)
- Technologies for the control, repairing and maintenance of components (AS31)
- Artificial intelligence techniques for decision system support and use of big data to support MRO (AS32)
The IMOS project aims to revolutionize aerospace maintenance through the integration of innovative technologies and established application models. The use of sensors, computer vision and augmented reality enables real-time monitoring of time- and temperature-sensitive tools, machinery and materials (TATS Material), improving maintenance management and production efficiency.
The integrated platform uses Machine Learning for predictive monitoring, enabling it to prevent failures and reduce downtime. This system is developed in four main modules:
- HandTools: automated management and monitoring of maintenance cycles.
- AR/VR Maintenance Process: using augmented reality to improve aerospace maintenance.
- TATS Material: monitoring of environmental parameters and material characteristics.
- Defect Inspection: identification of nonconformities through predictive models.
The project aims to create an integrated ecosystem that combines maintenance and tracking through key technologies (IoT, AR, Big Data, Computer Vision, AI), forming an artificial neural network-like architecture to support aerospace maintenance.
The IMOS project aims to introduce innovative technologies to the aerospace industry.
The project’s innovation is based on the creation of an integrated ecosystem for the operation and maintenance of aerospace facilities and systems by unifying instrument and machinery maintenance and tracking activities through field devices and key technologies (KETs). This Advanced Maintenance system, combined with high-performance technologies, will provide numerous benefits for the maintenance of complex facilities.
Technically, the integration of AI (ML, M2M, DL) and technology devices will create an elaborate architecture, similar to an artificial neural network, to support the maintenance of aerospace components and equipment.
The goal is to demonstrate the adaptability and usefulness of these technologies in the aerospace manufacturing context, where the efficiency of tools and machines is crucial to ensure safe and certified avionics products. Technologies integrated in the Health Management project include:
Ultra Wide Band Real Time Location System (UWB RTLS): Real time location system.
Real Time Defect Inspection (RTDI): Real time defect inspection.
AR Operation System (AROS): Operating system for augmented reality operations.
The main benefits will be as follows:
- Improved production performance with reduced downtime due to component wear and tear;
- Reduced maintenance costs through integration with machines and application of predictive maintenance algorithms with detailed analysis of component life cycles;
- Improvement of legal deadline management processes related to plant maintenance processes;
